Our personal tips for day trips in summer and winter

There are many interesting destinations in the area - visit the Ice Man at the Ötzi Museum in Bolzano, the pearl of the Dolomite lakes in Braies or the floating city of Venice.

In the summer, Selva Gardena is the perfect place for hiking, mountaineering, mountain biking and relaxing, whilst winter visitors can enjoy perfectly prepared ski slopes and cross-country ski trails. For those looking to complement the extensive range of sporting and cultural activities on offer with a trip to a neighbouring village or town, we can recommend the following destinations.

Lago di Braies

The largest natural lake in the Dolomites is a true natural spectacle worth visiting in every season. Located at the foot of the Croda del Becco and the Braies Dolomites, it is part of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park and thus a protected natural monument. In the summer months, the summits of the surrounding mountains are reflected in the deep blue, partly emerald-green waters, but even in winter the frozen lake exudes a very special flair.

Ötzi Museum in Bolzano

History buffs should not miss the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in the historic centre of Bolzano. In addition to a variety of temporary archaeological exhibitions, the permanent exhibition on Ötzi the Ice Man is also housed here. See the original and very well-preserved ice mummy, estimated to be around 5,300 years old, plus other original finds such as clothing and equipment, as well as a life-like Ötzi reconstruction.

The Touriseum in Merano

Embark on a journey through 200 years of tourism history in South Tyrol. This exciting adventure museum with detailed models, sound recordings, videos and mechanical theatres, delights both big and small visitors. In addition, the South Tyrol Museum of Tourism is housed in the Trauttmansdorff castle in Merano, the former holiday castle of Empress Sissi with an attractive botanical garden.

Day trip to Venice

Visit the historic city centre of Venice, stroll through the narrow, idyllic streets or enjoy the city from the water on a romantic gondola ride. The approximately 3-hour comfortable bus ride into the historic lagoon city, capital of Veneto and UNESCO World Heritage since 1987, undoubtedly pays off. During the summer, a bus service from the village square of Selva Gardena, right in front of the hotel, takes guests to Venice in the early morning and safely back again in the evening.
